9.0Ditching and Capture by the Japanese
The ditching was told in a statement by Flight Officer Allan Mervyn Brown, one of the crew, to investigators of the Casualty Repatriation Section of the RAAF, after the war.

No reason has been found to indicate the damage suffered by A9-244 prior to ditching but it is assumed enemy flak and subsequent mechanical failure, sustained during the bombing mission, was the cause.
